Alexandra loves to play the drum so we went to the REMO Drums in North Hollywood. Tuesday night they offer Drum Circle time and people come and just drum away.. Doesn't she look so cute!!!!!!!
Alexandra is a beautiful 10 year old child with Special Needs who has a zest for life. Even with her special needs that does not stop her from enjoying life to it's fullest. When Alexandra was born she showed not indication of any disability, healthy baby. At about six months old the Doctor's noticed that she was not developing at the level she should be and suggested we get some test done. As time went on more was reveled. A muscle condition called Myopathy and development delays. Similarities to Autism. Doctor's were confused but amazed by her happy, fun and sweet attitude. With alot of therapy and hard work from both her Mom, Dad and therapists, she crawled at 2 years of age. Wearing braces on her legs until she was 5 gave her the help to get around. At 3 1/2 she started to walk on her own but that was with the help of Barry her father and I. We moved to Santa Clarita in 2001 and attended the Concerts in the park in the summer. Alexandra loves music and we new this was a great way to get her up and walking. That summer 2003 we went to all the concerts and had her up on the dance on the floor taking steps back and forth between Daddy and Mommy. Eventually she started to do this on her own.. The biggest day on our lifes besides the day she was born. Alexandra is now in fourth grade in a special day class and is doing fabulous. Even though she is at about a 3 1/2 year level at 10 years of age she is moving forward at Alexandra's pace.. She is playing soccer, taking swimming lessons and continues to improve everyday.
Alexandra will be attending 3rd grade this year at Helmers, in Santa Clarita with her friends from her last several years.
Unfortunatly Alexandra has been diagnosed with seizers. She has started medication and is having some trouble and still experiencing seizures. We will be trying another medication and pray it works. She is a trooper and just keeps going a happy child. Well we finally were able to find a medicaton that worked. Alexandra has been seizure free and is able to continue living life.
She started 5th grade and is doing very well in school and she still has her friends gather around her at school recess.
